I've been away from DA for quite some time. The distractions have been plentiful and enjoyable. Just after a short thanksgiving break, there was a freak winter storm that halted much of Western Washington and left many to their own devices. School was out for several days. It just so happened that during this winter storm, I had gotten Flight Simulator X. A truly exquisite piece of software that took up much of my time during those white ridden days. School Update

The first day of school left much to be desired. There were the typical class intros where you clumsily go through your name, hobby, goals, etc. They hand out a bunch of papers. Waste a lot of time... Same old bullshit. There was also an assembly where half of the students became partially deaf due to idiots running the sound equipment. Lucky7s76's latest journal entry (First Day of Junior Status) can elaborate. I do not wish to remember that experience. Luckily, I got my schedule sorted out. There are no more gaps now! Xgl and Compiz

Well, I decided to go with the trend and try out Xgl and Compiz. I must say, It is amazing that it can produce the effects it produces with so little overhead. Very impressive. I'm currently running it on my laptop [Fujitsu NB-50L], which is entry level, and is equipped as such, with an Intel i845G Graphics chipset with 8mb of vram [shared 512 MB system RAM]. Even with my modest mobile equipment, Xgl and Compiz deliver effects reminiscent of OS X and the Vista Betas [with the clunky, hoggish Aero Interface].
